Deployment Environments

Here is each relevant category in deployment that may or may not apply to your product. Look at each heading and its first paragraph to see if it applies.

Pipelines

Deploying should be managed by pipelines, whether it's for production or development. Jenkins and GitHub Actions, for example, can be good solutions for setting this up. Make sure your hosting solution supports an adequate pipeline strategy.

Hosting

Assess how much traffic your application will get and who will use it. Different hosting solutions are better for different use cases. Check the pricing on the current top three cloud platforms and go with what's most cost-effective and scalable for your requirements.

Telemetry

If what you're developing is something you'll be bound to maintain and continue running, it's important to develop it with enough telemetry and alerts so that when anything goes wrong, you already know what went wrong, when and why. This includes adequate logging too.

Health Checks

Automate checks that your application responds and can reach essential dependencies such as its database. This is most important in production.
